Unreal Engine Gameplay & Security Engineer

Anti-Cheat, Hardening, Exploits

Location: Remote

Job Type: Contract Based Full-Time Hours

About Alderon Games:

Alderon Games is a leading video game development company known for creating engaging and immersive gaming experiences. We foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and collaboration, and we are dedicated to producing high-quality games.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Security Engineer to protect our games and our players. In this role, you will harden the game client, secure client–server communication, validate RPC calls, and detect and respond to cheats, exploits, and abuse. You will work closely with gameplay, engine, and backend engineers to build security into our titles from the ground up and keep the playing field fair for our community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement security systems that protect the game client and its communication with our servers.

• Validate and authenticate RPC calls between client and server so that nothing the client asserts is trusted without verification.

• Build, integrate, and maintain anti-cheat systems, including third-party tools such as BattlEye where appropriate.

• Investigate live cheats and exploits, reverse engineer how they work, and ship countermeasures.

• Implement integrity checks, anti-tamper, and runtime protections on the code and data paths most targeted by cheat developers.

• Partner with gameplay and engine engineers to embed security into new features without degrading the player experience.

• Monitor live telemetry for suspicious behavior and help shape detection and ban workflows.

• Create and maintain documentation on security best practices, threat models, and incident response.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Security Engineer, Anti-Cheat Engineer, or similar role in game development or applied security.

• Strong C++ skills, including multi-threaded programming.

• Solid understanding of networked game architecture, authoritative server design, and common RPC/replication security pitfalls.

• Experience with Windows internals and the techniques used to exploit them (memory scanning, DLL injection, API hooking).

• Debugging and analytical skills, with a genuinely adversarial mindset toward your own code.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience shipping or maintaining an anti-cheat system on a live multiplayer title.

• Familiarity with reverse engineering and analysis tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, x64dbg, or Frida.

• Experience with Unreal Engine, including networking, replication, and gameplay systems.

• Background in vulnerability research, CTFs, or bug bounty programs.

• Knowledge of cryptography fundamentals (signing, key management, secure channels) and platform security on consoles.

• Familiarity with server infrastructure, telemetry pipelines, or ML-assisted cheat detection.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary.
  • A creative, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • The opportunity to work on innovative and exciting projects.
  • Remote work options and flexible work hours.
  • Opportunities for career development and growth.

Note: all applications must be accompanied by a resume and cover letter.
